Well, everything has gone back to normal. Unfortunately. It's been an exhausting/confusing couple of weeks but whatever.
I work for a company which gets contracts from different companies that hire us to do call-center work for them (either inbound or outbound). I was working for Origin Energy, my job was to call existing customers in NSW to offer them discounted rates and also to take inbound calls from customers who had missed calls or answering machine messages about the offers. Last Wednesday, as it was the end of the financial year and everything was crazy, we had to go into a big meeting where we were told that nobody would be let go etc. because everyone had been worried/heard rumours/already had hours cut back etc. so they wanted to clear that all up. On Thursday a few of us were called into another meeting and were told they no longer had any hours for us. Kind of annoyed since the day before they'd basically told us the opposite but at the same time I can understand that it's Origin's decision and not theirs so I don't really blame them. I'm still "on-call" but I don't really know how reliable or frequent that is going to be. They told me to wait it out until August because that's when business starts to pick up but even though it's only a few weeks away I think I should probably start looking for more work just in case. So that sucks but such is life.
In other, more happy, news today is Harry Potter day! At the moment it's 5:27PM and I'm just waiting it out until 9PM when I'm going to see Deathly Hallows part 1 and then 12:10AM when I'll finally be seeing Deathly Hallows part 2. Mixed feelings at the moment - I'm obviously extremely excited but I'm also kind of nervous and really, really sad that it's all ending. Without giving anything away for those who haven't read it, I'm mostly nervous about the whole Shrieking Shack scene (which I actually think isn't taking place in the Shrieking Shack but whatever, Potter nerds know what I'm talking about). It's going to be so beautiful and heartbreaking and ugh I cannot wait.
Also, if anyone wants a good laugh at me they should probably click here. I was on the cover of my local newspaper today! It's quite embarrassing but is also pretty much the coolest thing ever (even if they did quote me wrong and made me sound like a nine year old hahaha).
